Testing is now available for people:
A) Who have at least one symptom of COVID-19, even for mild symptoms.
If you have severe symptoms – call 911 or go to the Emergency Department
If you want to be tested and have symptoms – Book an appointment with PRHC’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre by calling 705-876-5086 if you can travel there safely without putting others at risk; if you cannot travel there safely, contact your health care provider to be referred for testing by paramedics
B) Who do not have symptoms but:
- are concerned that they have been exposed to COVID-19. This includes people who are contacts of or may have been exposed to a confirmed or suspected case.
- are at risk of exposure to COVID-19 through their employment, including essential workers (e.g., health care workers, grocery store employees, food processing plants).
Drive through testing for people without symptoms of COVID 19 is available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 pm. 7 days a week at the Kinsmen Centre. First come, first served – no appointments. 1 Kinsmen Way, Peterborough, ON K9J 5Y6.
The test will only say whether you are positive or negative for the COVID-19 virus at the point in time the swab was taken.
It does not tell you whether you are immune to the virus, and a negative test does not mean you should relax physical distancing and other precautions.
A serology test for COVID-19 – which determines whether a person has previously had the virus by identifying antibodies in the person’s system – is not yet available in Canada.
