From the first event in Melbourne, Australia in 2001, International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) has evolved into a global campaign to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma associated with drug-related death. IOAD provides an opportunity to grieve lives that have been lost to fatal overdoses, while stimulating ongoing discussion about evidence-based overdose prevention and drug policy.
