If you need a prescription renewed, please contact your pharmacist. Your NP will then get all the information needed to deal with your prescription as quickly as possible. We require 10 working days to renew prescriptions.
Why?
Contacting your pharmacy before you run out of your medications will help us serve you better:
- We want you to be able to through more easily to us on our phones when you need to. Currently 1 in 4 calls are about prescription renewals – which should be directed to a pharmacist instead of tying up our phone lines.
- Our team spends a lot of time scrambling to get prescriptions renewed at the last minute. We want their time spent on taking care of your health – not reacting to unnecessary urgency.
- Technology works against trying to renew prescriptions at the last minute – faxes are unreliable and take a lot of time to process (we receive them as a long list of unidentifiable numbered electronic documents).
We hope you can work with us to:
Renew your prescriptions at least two weeks before they run out.
Contact your pharmacist for all prescription renewals. If you do need an appointment with your NP, the pharmacist will let you know.
Pharmacists can refill a prescription if you forget to in exceptional circumstances – and most pharmacies do not charge a fee for this service (Shoppers Drug Mart does charge).
Some local pharmacies use PrescribeIT to communicate with us digitally so it’s faster and there are less tech glitches. A list of pharmacies using PrescribeIT is at the end of this email.
We’ve had notices saying we need 10 days to renew prescriptions for years – and now we will be requiring staff to stick to this so we can provide better health care to all our patients.
And finally, we have no affiliation with the “VON” – using this in our name leads people calling the wrong number and causes mail to go to the wrong address.
We thank you for cooperation.
Best,
Suzanne Galloway, Executive Director & Kathy Hardill, NP Lead/Clinical Director
